Official Offices for Records and Custody Questions

Charles City County has no County-operated jail. Riverside Regional Jail is the appropriate starting point for a possible current regional-jail custody record, while the Sheriff and County FOIA route handle Sheriff-held arresting-agency records.

County FOIA requests

For a County or Sheriff record request, email CCCFOIArequests@charlescityva.us and identify the Charles City County Sheriff's Office as the requested custodian. Jessica Poe, Chief of Staff, is the County's designated FOIA officer. The County FOIA page explains the request channel and form.

Riverside Regional Jail

500 FOLAR Trail
North Prince George, VA 23860

For RRJ-held public records, contact Lt. C. Jones, Office of Professional Review, at foia@rrjva.org. The jail's Inmate Locator is an individual custody lookup, not a Charles City-only arrest list or a confirmation of release.

Choose the route that fits the question

  • For a possible current regional-jail custody result, start with the RRJ Inmate Locator and then RRJ's main line if necessary.
  • For a defined Sheriff arrest report or County-held record, use the County FOIA route and provide a name, approximate date, and any known case or incident number.
  • For a defined RRJ-held booking or custody record, direct the request to RRJ PIO/FOIA rather than asking the County to obtain a jail record it does not hold.
  • For an adult initial-intake or routine-booking photograph, request the existing record from its holder under Virginia Code ยง 2.2-3706. The law includes a narrow ongoing-felony-investigation exception, and no outcome is guaranteed.
  • For a filed case or disposition, use the Virginia courts case directions or the appropriate Charles City court clerk. A booking is an allegation, not a conviction.
  • For Virginia Department of Corrections custody or supervision, use the VADOC Inmate & Supervisee Locator, which does not cover every new local arrest.
  • For federal or immigration custody, use the official Bureau of Prisons locator or ICE Online Detainee Locator System as appropriate.
